Viking Foods started out as Viking Meat & Sausage Co. on October 21,
1955. Three Finnish immigrants joined together to recreate the taste of
meat products for themselves and the thousands of other Finnish immigrants who
were coming to Canada to find a new home.

The original store in Leaside

Eventually my father Olavi became the sole owner and moved the business from
downtown to the more uptown Leaside area where a decision was made to start
importing food products from Finland to expand the business. The Leaside
location included a retail store where the meat and imported products were sold
while the wholesale side grew with increasing sales to Northern Ontario and
select locations across Canada.
